Sweet Banana!

I am not really the ‘mischievous girl’ most times but I could be, especially when I have a partner in crime. This I did, with my roommate and anytime it comes back to my memory, I am a bit embarrassed on our behalf.

For those that schooled in Lautech, and familiar with Adenike Area, you would also know Adeniran Hostel and Barracks Hostel . These two hostels are mixed and shared a fence somehow so we could always link it from behind without the usual merry go round. Usually, my roommate and I were always together though we were not in the same department. We were called 5&6; thin&fat; short&tall…at least, that’s what we were called to our faces. I’m sure some peeps had hideous nicknames as we too had for other people (we were that mischievous).

So this fateful day, we took an evening stroll through the shortcut to Barracks Hostel but something caught our eyes…a banana tree, in full blossom, with two bunches of rich fruits standing in isolation! You see, the problem was that we had always been taking that route and never noticed this ‘blessing’.Β Fortunately for us, the bunches were ripe enough to harvest. But unfortunately, it wasn’t going to be an easy task as we were not tall enough and the day was still young! Tell me, how do we explain to passersby about our rights to harvest the bananas? So we went on with the stroll but made it very brisk as we were going to carry out the operation that same day or else our ‘blessing’ would have been ripped off…you know how Students Areas are, no one could be trusted. Anyone who knew and saw us that day would have noticed we were very brisk about our chats, because we had pressing needs.

So, at exactly 8pm the same day we already arranged a chair from a guy’s room which was very close to the ‘site of action’; sharpened two kitchen knives because we had two bunches to cut! Thankfully, NEPA struck so we were in absolute darkness. No one could take that route at that time anymore. Cheerfully and purposefully, we set out to business and thankfully, our ‘blessings’ were intact, waiting to be delivered into our bosoms!
Now is the time I have to fess up…I had never done anything as serious as this though I read Agronomy.Β My roommate stepped up to the cutting (she’s the taller one) so even if I went for the cutting I would not have reached the bunch talk less of the stalk. So I just supported the chair and pointed the phone’s touch at the target but discreetly…we couldn’t afford to be caught.

Thankfully, we harvested the two beautiful bunches, tidied up, took the bunches to our room and fled to Adenike Hostel (A girls only hostel). We were so afraid of being traced (so much for being clean in our tracks). We returned to our hostel very late when most people were asleep.
The next day, we shared a bunch with our accomplices that harboured us after the ‘operation’. At least, that’s what we had to pay for their little kindness.

Would you believe if I told you that weeks after that harvest, we noticed another bunch from another tree just beside it? It hadn’t matured during the first operation so we started monitoring that one too, not knowing we were not the only ones expectant. Some days later, we went strolling on that route to check on our ‘blessing’ only to see a charm tied to it!!! We knew we had been ousted. That put an end to our fantasy of getting another harvest.

My roommate and I remembered this not long ago and couldn’t hold back the laughter…let’s share some laughter from your mischiefs in the comment box, there’s more than enough news of depression these days, we could use some laughter in here.

If you enjoyed this post, kindly share and let’s make it viral. Thanks for reading

  6. Of course, we ate Debbie’s yam-myself and lollie. The story is on my Facebook wall.
This mischievous duo lived right beside me, only a wall separated us. So I can testify.
How about the day a guy came knocking on their door and they refused to open. The son of man refused to leave. We stylishly came out to see the ‘disturbant’. He asked us if we had seen them earlier. We nodded.
She can tell the rest of the story.
One time, they went to tap water melon somewhere on the road…. And so on

But the coolest of this gist….they held the baddest birthday shindigs in school area…

That guy that came knocking ehnnn, he came knocking some weeks ago in my inbox on FB. I’ll find the right time to share his story and probably tag him…ingredients and nonsense!😎
As for the water melon, probably that was my roommie. I wasn’t in the know sha. Shallout to all those that attended our parries both invited and uninvited. Would you believe two uninvited ones came and pretended…I met her again in the ‘yellow room’ but she doesn’t know me up to date…story for another day.
Thanks, Olas for dropping by 😘

Yes na…very pressing o. Seems I need ones of those girls to tell me the real story. Those clowns are something else. Olas’ words can snap me out of deep depression…the only one who makes me speak my dialect without any care, while Lolly is a thug, I tell ya.πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
      Thanks, Eunice for dropping by.😘
